Gmail as primary email address

If you are a student and you start working at Utrecht University in addition to your studies (an employee appointment), you will receive a new email address. It ends with @uu.nl (e.g. j.a.janssen@uu.nl) and it is your so-called Solismail.

All emails sent to you (both to your @students.uu.nl and your @uu.nl email address) are delivered to your Solismail from the moment you commence employment. No new emails will come in at your UU-Gmail*.

Some student-employees want to keep using their UU-Gmail for the handling of their email. If you prefer this, follow the instructions below to set this up. This ensures all your email will be delivered at your UU-Gmail.

* Old emails will remain in your UU-Gmail. Nothing is ever thrown away.

  • Step 1

    Go to https://solismail.uu.nl/ and log in using your employee UU e-mail address and solis-password (for example j.smith@uu.nl).

  • Step 2

    Click on Settings (the gear symbol) in the top right corner and then on “Mail”.

  • Step 3

    Click on “Inbox and sweep rules” and then on the plus-symbol to create a new rule.

  • Step 4

    In the text field underneath “When the message arrives, and it matches all of these conditions” select “[Apply to all messages]”.

  • Step 5

    Underneath “Do all the following” select “Forward, redirect, or send” and then “Redirect message to…”.

     

  • Step 6

    Fill in your UU-Gmail email address here, but instead of ‘@students.uu.nl’ at the end, you now fill in ‘@galias.students.uu.nl’.

    Example: if your UU-Gmail address is ‘j.a.smith@students.uu.nl’, you now fill in ‘j.a.smith@galias.students.uu.nl’ here.

    Click on “Save”.

  • Step 7

    Click “OK” to confirm the new rule.

  • Step 8

    Your email will now be delivered to your UU-Gmail.

    Note: all emails sent to your UU-Gmail address will also be delivered to your Solis mail. If you were to log in to solismail.uu.nl again, you would see all your emails there too.

  • Step 9

    If you want to remove an Inbox rule you can select it in the menu ‘Inbox rules’ and click on the recycle bin icon (see image on the left).
